Within care proceedings he mainly represents parents, including those accused of the most serious acts of abuse and neglect. He has also acted for local authorities and guardians.

He is a member of the Family Law Bar Association, and has taught advocacy on the Bar Vocational Course at Manchester Metropolitan University for the last 8 years. He is accredited by the Bar Council to accept Public Direct Access work.

David Maddison graduated from Birmingham University in 1993, and went on to study the Bar Vocational Course at the Inns of Court School of Law.

After working in Manchester solicitors’ firms for 14 months, he did his training in London. He moved to Cobden House in 1999, and since then has practised in all areas of family law.

David regularly deals with ancillary relief cases, representing both husbands and wives, and has a growing expertise in property disputes between unmarried couples.  He has dealt with proceedings ranging from those with very few assets to multi-million pound cases.

In cases involving children he regularly represents parents, grandparents and other carers.  He has also handled several disputes with an international element, such as where a parent wishes to emigrate with a child.  He has also represented clients in several Forced Marriage Protection cases, and where there is a significant risk of abduction.
